Wages and salaries in trade and services increased in the first half of 2021

Vienna, 2021-10-06 – In the first half of 2021, wages and salaries rose by 2.9% in trade and by 1.7% in services compared to the previous year's period, according to calculations by Statistics Austria. Compared to the first half of 2020, hours worked increased by 6.9% in trade enterprises and by 3.9% in service enterprises. The number of employees developed differently in both of these areas over the same period, increasing by 0.7% in trade and decreasing by 0.8% in the services sector.

However, as both the first half of 2020 and the first half of 2021 were strongly marked by the Corona pandemic and were characterised to varying degrees by lockdowns, temporary company closures and short-time working, both half-years are only comparable to a limited extent.
